Thanks Carl. Seems most of your site is antipsychiatry so I don't fit in very well.

I have just finished reading Dark Clouds Gather and have had my eyes widened by the experience. It is an articulate, no-nonsense approach to a subject many others would find impossible to record with any degreeof meaning, let alone in this detail. It is a book I recommend to any person that has a similar illness, or knows someone that does. In fact even if you have no illness and don’t know anyone ill, you will find it to be an education.

The subject matter of mental illness takes many forms in the book; eating disorders, self-harm, manic depression and much more. I can personally only relate directly to one of them and I find that difficult enough to cope with and write about. But Dark Clouds Gather manages to cover all of them in startling depth.

With all that was going on in your life, how you coped with the day to day stuff generally and the demands of academia, is in itself worth an award. The extraordinary thing about it all is that you came out the other side and you’re still kicking. Hats off! Good luck with the other works.

Regards

David Thomas

I assume you have already approached the university support team which is there for mental health as well as physical problems - all Uni's have one. Concentrating can be hard which is why it is worth approaching a member of staff you trust and telling them briefly about your problems - allowances for you will then be made. As for actually concentrating I drank lots of coffee, though I'm not sure that is a good idea. It's important to eat as well as you can (hard on a budget or if you have an ED but which ever do your best). Take cod liver oil tablets long term. (Flaxseed oil if you are vegi). If you want to talk more specifically email me and I will email you back. (Details on the contact me page). KSx

Wow Katysara! I was directed to your site from Stephen Fry's forum and I wanted to say how inspirational it's been. Your achievements are amazing. I was wondering if you had any tips for coping and staying focused on your studies while at university and dealing with mental health issues?
